Today is "Tarantella Day" for the Italian 7th and 8th grade students at Accompsett Middle School.

In honor of World Language Week, AMS teacher, Monique Barricelli, is teaching her Italian students how to dance the Tarantella Napoletana!
The tarantella is a lively, upbeat folk dance and song from southern Italy. The word "tarantella" comes from the word "tarantism", a disease or hysteria that was thought to be caused by a tarantula bite. The tarantella has appeared in the musical version of Peter Pan in 1954.
As part of learning about Italian culture, Mrs. Barricielli says she wants the students “to be the hit of every Italian wedding or party they go to.”
