Great Hollow Middle School is celebrating College Day for March Madness! 野花社区视频 and faculty wore their favorite college gear to represent their college pride. A bulletin board included information about where our faculty attended college and displayed pictures of them from their college days. Teachers spent time each class period discussing with students what their college experience was like and several teachers guided their lesson around college. Ms. Grimaldi’s students researched individual colleges. They learned about undergraduate enrollment, acceptance and graduation rates, cost of attendance and a fun fact about the college they researched. They designed pennants to represent their college that included all of this information.
Ms. Roberts’ Math 7 classes spent time learning about the cost of college through a lesson on compound interest. 野花社区视频 were asked to calculate the interest that accrued on student loans for different colleges using the simple interest formula: I =PRT.
Additionally, four local colleges, including Stony Brook University, Long Island University, St. Joseph’s University and Adelphi University visited Great Hollow and met with our 8th graders during their lunch periods. 野花社区视频 had an opportunity to speak with the college representatives and learn more about the offerings provided by each of these schools. It was a spirited and fun day that was even enhanced by our own school mascot, the Smithtown Bull!
